The Colorado Farm Bureau continues to support industrial hemp. They
amended their policy as follows:

Policy adopted in 1995:
"We strongly support the reintroduction of industrial hemp (defined as
Canabis sativa having one perceent (1%) or less of THC
(tetrahydrocannoabinol)."

Amendment:
Removed the word "strongly" from that statement and added:
"We support research into the viability and economic potential of
industrial hemp produced in the United States."

It appears the Colorado Farm Bureau will continue to support and lobby for
legislation that would allow farmers to produce non-psychoactive hemp as a
cash fiber crop in Colorado. They have not shied away from hemp beacause
of the scare tactics used by the DEA to kill the industrial hemp bill this
year. Chances are good Colorado will have another industrial hemp bill in
1997. We can expect strong opposition from the federal government again
this year, especially in light of the passage of the medical marijuana
initiative in CA (Prop. 215) and the drug medicalizaion initiative in AZ
(Prop. 200). Their rhetoric is: Industrial hemp leads to marijuana which
leads to the legalizaion of all drugs.
Fortunately, we have 10,000 years of history and facts to combat
their 60 years of lies and dis-information.
1997 will be a very interesting year.
