Welcome to Juneau, Alaska
A view of Juneau from the tram.
Greetings, and welcome to Southeast Alaska! This site belongs to William "Shorty" Tonsgard, Jr., and his wife, Connie. Shorty was born in Juneau and Connie flew in from Portland, Oregon 28 years ago to begin a life and family with him. Shorty works in the heavy equipment construction field, scrap metal hauling and logging while Connie is a homemaker and caregiver for two of their four children who are still at home. They collaborated on a children's book about Shorty's life growing up in a logging camp, and in July of 1999, published "Willie & Sam".
The story is a slice of logging life as seen through Willie's eyes, and Sam is the name of the truck Willie longs to be big enough to drive. After an inexperienced driver wrecks the truck, Willie wonders if Sam will be fixed or not. The next season, Willie has grown, and Sam returns. Does he get to drive? You bet! Each quality page is full of colorful illustrations with sea creatures, wildlife, birds and bugs to give your child plenty to look at. Evaluated by art students at Juneau Christian School, we were complimented repeatedly on the pictures.
"Chemicals From Trees" and "Wood Products" are two extensive lists we included as well as a glossary explaining logging terms and Alaskan wildlife. The book is 50 pages, 8.5 X 11, with a perfect bound, soft cover, and retails at $15.00, but due to storage space limitations, we are selling them for $6.00 per copy. With an order of five or more, price is reduced to $2.00 per copy.
