Eruks Wilderness Southwest Alaska Fishing, 2004 |
Resident fish numbers, including rainbow trout, arctic char, and grayling numbers continue to be strong. 3 anglers caught 50 beautiful dark-spotted "Bows over 20" in 4 days. Char are so numerous as to be a nuisance when anglers tire of them and prefer to concentrate on rainbows
The Coho ran in waves with plenty in some stretches, none in others.
Rainbows are protected by no-kill and single hook/ artificial lure regs. Late July and early August trips puts us into amazing numbers of Rainbows and Arctic Char as well, a few measuring over 23".
On early August trips anglers have caught all 5 species of Pacific salmon in the same week.
Wildlife is a major attraction on trips, and guests have seen over 15 brown bears during a few days. We sighted many small caribou herds, and gravel bars were honeycombed with their tracks. Wolf evidence and howling are becoming common. We saw a wolf chase a gimpy caribou across the river in front of us. On the same trip we saw 2 adult wolves with some pups.
Another wildlife event was seeing a wolverine on shore, 20 yards from our raft!
I am no longer booking trips. However I can help plan and outfit your unguided adventure.
Rene Limeres has some wonderful fishing trips in Kamchatka. Rene also just finished the 3rd edition of Fishing Alaska, an excellent reference on exploring the Greatland.
Catch and release techniques, plus Rainbow and Char photos!
