Notes for Mary Edna Lishen:
From letter written to Linda Headstream.

"Sept 7th

Dear Linda

Will now try and answer your letter which came while I was visiting Robertas,   Myrtle fowered it to me but I waited till I came home,   to go through some papers in order to ans. some of your questions,   Them Wilda came home with me and Mary came over and her son & Family came and all were here for Labor Day,  which we spent at Vics mt cabin with A family reunion.   All my family except Gerna & husband were there also 4 of my grand  sons and 2 of my great grand children.  There is nothing,  I enjoy more than having my children all around me

Before I begin, I am going to ask you to please over look and excure all mistakes as I didnt learn typing in school,   and never used A typewriter untill I got so shaky that no one could read my writing,  then Clyde got me the typeing wachine and I type with one finger and often strike the wrong key.   So please bare with me, all of the mistakes

I think the fire you asked about happened before Mother was married.  The family lived on A homestead just south of the Saline River and south of where Culver is now.   If I am right it was A prairie fire and they thought thier home woulg burn,    The buildings were under A high bank or cliff and thr fire burned to the edge of the cliff and died out I hope I am not mistaken,   for we children liked to play under that cliff and mother told us about the fire and she was always so afraid of fire,   when papa would burn any refuse.    I dont know what the initals A A stand for but Reverend Morrison was mothers grandfather.

I dont know about the dates but it must of been in 1886 when she went to Normal and quit in the spring of 1887

My own Mother died whrn I was 7 years old of consuption.  now called T B.   When  Papa was left alone with 3 small children, Uncle Charles, Papas oldest brother lived in Key ann had 3 sons,  so his wife,   Aunt Fanny came out and took me home with her,   I was there A little more than A year.  Uncle Hemry who lived in Mamhatten and worked for the R R  came and took Russell as they had no children at that time.

Maud was born latter,   Uncle Louis was the baby when Papas mother died and was given, with Papa to Orths.    Then  Frandpa Lishen married again and took baby Louis back.

I dont know when uncle Henery came to Kansas He married Dean Walker of ST George Kansas.   Then came to culver and farmed.   They lived with Papa and aunt Dean kept house for them and papa decided to come to Key and get me.

They were with us for A couple of years when they decided to farm for them selves so moved.   Mama with Rex & Elwood was living with her sister & family and Papa hired her to come keep hous for us.    I do not know the cause of her husbands death.  She kept house for us and sent the 4 of us to school.  Russell was to youg to go the first year she was with us.

She was A wonderfull woman and the best mother any children could have.  My own mother couldnt have been better and I thank her for being the christian that I am today.

I do not know how many children A A morisons had and dont know was the  father of these cousins of Mamas.  There was George, Nellie, Myra & Bessie Morrison.   Bessie was A school teacher.  Then there was A Grace Holland that Mama said was A cousin but I dont know anthing farther about her, She was My 3rd grade teacher when I staid with My grandparents,  Elston and went to school in Salina.  I do not know foe sure who Hugh Morrison was but think he was A an uncle of Mamas.  There was also A Morrison killed In the huricane that destroyed Galveston I believe he was A cousin also and I do nort remember Andrew Morrisom.

And about Annas trip to Ill.  My grandfather Lisbon Came to Kansas to live with us after his 2nd wife died and died at Papas so he and uncle henry took Maud & Anna and the body back to Ill for burisl.

I am enclosing A clipping of Mamas death.   I hope what little I know of the Morrisosn will be of help to you and thanks for the  obituary of Papas life.  Do you need this one as I have and have given to my children.   Now they want me to write the history of my own life.

We are having A hot spell again that we feel very much after several weeks of nice cool weather.   But we need this heat to dry the grapes into raisens

Doyle is preparing for A trip to Georgia to visit his brither.   Will be gone 3 weeks and Myrtle and I will stay alone but Vics live across town and Verne will be in town next week  He is A pharmaceutical salesman and worked this territory about every 3 weeks.   Vic is A truck driver for A cement Co.   So we wont feel to much alone

Love to all

 Aunt Edna"
