Linda Petree's Artistic Process

Linda Petree: the artist "Many hands have worked to make each piece or knife you buy and it contains the spirit of us all. Whether it be the extinct animal or the one who has shed his horns in spring to await the growth of new. The ancient ancestor who chopped the tool for houshold use or the hunt, his modern counterpart who has unearthed this treasure under less than desireable conditions or the knifemaker who has worked the steel and left his individual personality. All have contributed to create this piece of canvas for me to add the final touch. My love and respect go out to all who have helped me to create this piece for you."

I draw my artwork in a "window" on the handle of the knives. I first examine each knife for the best location for this window then sand, buff and polish it to a fine finish. Here is a photograph of me at my polisher here at my workshop in Homer. All my work is done by hand that creates a one-of-a-kind piece of art for you.

Dan has built me a new work shop adjacent to our home here in Homer. The view from my work table is stupendous and serves as a constant inspiration to me. View from Linda's workshop
  • First I check the knife for flaws and get the "feel" of the piece.
  • Next the "window" is polished .
  • Then etch in the picture.
  • Next comes the dye
  • Lastly I seal the artwork to preserve it.
