What an opportunity to support our children
and public education in Anchorage!

The Anchorage Assembly and the Anchorage School Board voted unanimously to place 3 school bonds on the April 1st ballot. The propositions total over $209 million, however, Proposition C passage in November 2002 provides for 60-70% state reimbursement.

The bonds include major maintenance at over 45 schools, as well as renovations and additions at eight schools--Bartlett, East and Service High Schools, the new Eagle River HS, Chugach Optional, Polaris K-12, Chester Valley and Sand Lake Elementary Schools. An Administrative and Training Center would replace 5 leased facilities spread throughout the city. Go to <http://www.asdk12.org> for details.

School Bonds Yes! is a grassroots ballot proposition committee composed of parents and community education advocates, who have registered with APOC to campaign for passage of the school bonds. Charles Wohlforth and Bob Bell, two former Assembly members on opposite ends of the political spectrum, are co-chairing the campaign.

What can your parent group do to
support the school bonds?

Learn more by scheduling a bond presentation at your school's next parent meeting. Contact Darlene Smith in ASD Public Relations at Smith_Darlene@asdk12.org or 742-4414.

Contribute to School Bonds Yes! at PO Box 200282, Anchorage, AK 99520-0282. Even $25 from every school PTA would make a statement. More substantial financial support of $200-$500 will allow for a strong radio, television, and print campaign to get the message out. Individuals and businesses are urged to support the cause, as well. Our goal is to raise $45,000!

VOTE April 1st in person or cast an absentee ballot. Election Day is the Tuesday immediately following Spring Break. Urge other parents, neighbors, and friends to vote.
